The D-CARBONIZE project is looking for 12 doctoral candidates with an interest in producing bioplastics from biomass

The D-CARBONIZE project is kicking off by recruiting 12 doctoral candidates. They will receive training on how to use circular chemistry to develop monomers from biochar sources, for use in the production of recyclable bioplastics.

The D-CARBONIZE project is a consortium of 12 partners led by Prof. Arjan W. Kleij from the Institute of Chemical Research of Catalonia (ICIQ). This project is part of Horizon Europe's Marie Skłodowska-Curie actions which aim to use biomass as a raw material for creating plastics. In a few years, the coating on smartphones and any other consumer product could be made from recycled materials.

The project seeks to promote new approaches in circular chemistry to designing and developing recyclable bioplastics from biomass. It has begun the process of selecting 12 doctoral candidates interested in joining the network and becoming future leaders in the field of sustainable polymers, depolymerisation techniques, biochar recovery and innovative catalytic strategies.

The application form and information on the positions available can be downloaded from the project website.
