The European Investment Bank (EIB) and the European Commission's Directorate-General for Research and Innovation are organising a WCEF2023 accelerator session on Cities and regions accelerating the circular economy.

This event is part of the World Circular Economy Forum 2023 and will take place on 1 June at 10:00 - 11:00 EET (09:00 - 10:00 CEST) in person at the European Commission, Malminkatu 16, 00100 Helsinki, or online.

A new initiative, CircularInvest, approved under the Circular Cities and Regions Initiative (CCRI), aims to help circular projects become investment-ready and access funding.

The short "Making Your Project Investment-Ready - Project Pitching Session" on 17 May 2023 at 11:00 CEST will provide a snapshot of CircularInvest’s free project development assistance services and details on the first call for expressions of interest through which circular project promoters can apply to access these services.

The event will also give participants the opportunity to get acquainted with one of CircularInvest’s services and prepare them to pitch their circular economy projects to investors.

Rare earth elements (REEs) are among the key critical raw materials required for the green and digital transitions. Unfortunately, the EU has to import what it needs, mostly from China. Permanent magnets – one of the largest applications of REEs – are important components for a number of technologies, including wind turbines, electric vehicles, e-bikes, white goods and consumer electronics.

Although recycling processes have potential for meeting some of the future demand for permanent magnets, they have not yet developed at scale in the EU due to several existing barriers. This event on 15 June will bring together experts along the permanent magnets recycling chain and policy makers to discuss how to develop a recycling chain for rare earth permanent magnets in the EU.

On 26 April the municipality of Wiltz, considered to be the "Municipal Hotspot of the Circular Economy in the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg", will hold the annual "Circular Economy Day" conference. This event aims to promote the circular economy at national and regional level by sharing the experience and know-how established through multiple projects and by activating and consolidating the network of stakeholders active in the circular field. The 2023 event will focus on urban metabolism.

The objective of the event "Enhancing the circularity in the Construction Sector" on 26 April 2023 is to

• Present the EU's Circular Economy Action Plan and the latest legislative developments to make the construction sector greener (including the revised EU Construction Products Regulation)
• Present the METABUILDING platform: fostering new cross-sectoral, cross-border industrial value chains
• Showcase successful collaborative projects and METABUILDING winners on the building & recycling sector
• Discuss the circularity and recycling challenge for the construction sector: state of play and future prospects.

The C2Lab is a co-creation space to mature project ideas and build business cases to support with other participants, potentially from other regions, countries, or sectors. The second edition of the Cluster Collaboration Labs will take place in Lund, Sweden, on 21-22 March 2023.

This interactive workshop is open to cluster organisations, companies, research organisations, actors from the civil society, and other interested entities. Before and during the lab, the participants will team up and develop together their project idea and business case that support the green and digital transition.

Join the House of Dutch Provinces in Brussels on 30 March 2023 (8:30 to 13:15 CEST) and learn how to create a more collaborative circular economy. 

The programme will focus on two areas:

1. European policies related to the circular economy, and
2. lessons learnt, with a series of case studies and regional experiences.

Smart Circular Economy is an international IEEE workshop focusing on the role of ICT as an enabler for Circular Economy. It brings together scientists, researchers, as well as relevant stakeholders from the industry and local communities to share and exchange their experiences, discuss challenges, and report state-of-the-art and in-progress research lying in the intersection of ICT and Circular Economy.
