The European Commission's Directorate-General for Environment is organising an information session on Circular Economy - Designed to last: sustainable and connected products in connection with Green Week.

In a circular economy products need to be designed for closed loops, but also to be used for longer and more intensively. The Sustainable Product Initiative (SPI) will set minimum design requirements to eliminate inbuilt obsolescence and promote durability, reparability and upgradability. Why do products fail and how will the SPI make a difference? What circular business opportunities will SPI generate? This session will provide some answers, looking particularly at the world of fashion and textiles.

The SPI will also launch a new European Digital Product Passport (DPP), setting data requirements to enable value chain stakeholders to access information essential for managing and maximising product value in the circular economy. How will the DPP unlock transformative benefits for our society, economy and environment? How will it work? The session will also take a look at examples of existing voluntary product passports and consider the added value of the DPP.

The session will take place on 31 May at 09:30 - 10:30 CEST at the Brussels Meeting Centre, Mont des Arts, 1000 Bruxelles, Belgium. It will be in English. Livestreaming will also be available.
