University students, recent graduates, and PhD students will have the opportunity to take part in the design of the circular city of the future during the first Italian hackathon on Circular Economy. The event will be held on 23 April from 9.30 to 19.00 and on 24 April from 10.00 to 13.00 and later from 16.30 to 17.30 (CET).

The event, which will be entirely online, has been designed to promote and support innovative and circular projects, involving the main Italian universities and some of the major companies operating in Italy in this field.

Eight macro-areas have been identified and for each area one challenge has been defined thanks to the involvement of industrial partners:

1. Salvatore Ferragamo for the Consumer Goods area
2. Esselunga for the Food area
3. Arup for the Design area
4. Cisco for the Digital area
5. Mapei for the Buildings area
6. IREN for the Energy area
7. Punch Torino and TO.TEM for the Mobility area, and
8. 2A for the Waste area.

In addition to the industrial partners, some of the major Italian universities have been involved, such as the Politecnico of Bari, the University of Bari, the University of Bologna, the University of Insubria, the University of Genoa, ALMED (Alta Scuola in Media, Comunicazione e Spettacolo), the University of Naples Federico II, the University of Pavia, the University of Pisa, the University of Gastronomic Sciences of Pollenzo, the University of Siena, the University IUAV of Venice and the University Ca’ Foscari of Venice.

Moreover, the hackathon entails a strong involvement of other actors that will support young participants in the refinement of their projects. Professors, Tondo associates, teams of experts from Circular Economy Lab, Intesa Sanpaolo Innovation Center and Cariplo Factory, ASP (Alta Scuola Politecnica) Alumni Association members and Global Shapers Torino will be tutors and mentors of the young participants during the two days.
