Commission launches three new initiatives to push EU's bioeconomy - including a call to support its marketability

A push for EU Bioeconomy
Date
15 Jun 2026
Scope

On 10 June 2026 the European Commission presented three new initiatives to boost EU's bioeconomy sector.

This launch includes

  • the Bio-based Europe Alliance (BEA) to support market scale-up
  • the Bioeconomy Investment Deployment Group (BIDG) to improve access to finance
  • and the Expert Group on Bioeconomy to support implementation by Member States.

A new call for expression of interest to join the Bio-based Europe Alliance has just been launched in parallel. The initiative aims to address gaps across the value chain that prevent companies from scaling up and reaching full market deployment of their bio-based materials and products.

The initiative responds to a strong demand as many promising companies in the bio-based sector continue to struggle to reach the commercial phase. With a mission to mobilise €10 billion in corporate offtake commitments by 2030, the Alliance will connect producers of bio-based materials, products and technologies with major European buyers, helping to create the predictable demand signals needed to unlock investment and bring innovative solutions to commercial scale.

Any expression of interest should be submitted by 31 July through the confirmation of interest form and sent to ENV-BIOECONOMY-STRATEGY@ec.europa.eu
