The accelerating growth of electronic waste, industrial byproducts and natural resources depletion highlights the urgent need for intelligent and scalable solutions in waste management. In parallel, AI has emerged as a transformative force capable of optimising decision making, automation and predictive modeling across the recycling value chain.

Frontiers in Artificial Intelligence is looking for contributions at the intersection of AI algorithms and sustainable innovation, with the goal of advancing circular economy practices and addressing the challenges of waste electrical and electronic equipment, battery recycling and critical raw material recovery.

They welcome submissions that develop and apply state-of-the-art AI methods including machine learning, computer vision, deep learning, optimization and edge computing for real-world applications in sustainable disassembly, resource recovery and waste treatment.

This topic serves as a platform for interdisciplinary research bridging algorithmic development and impactful applications aligned with the European Green Deal and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly in areas such as responsible consumption (SDG 12), industry innovation (SDG 9), and climate action (SDG 13).

Submission deadline: 31 January 2027. See here for author guidelines, further details and the submission link.
