Description

On 10 October 2018, ECOSOC and the Second Committee of the General Assembly of the United Nations held a joint meeting on Circular economy for the SDGs: From concept to practice, to discuss how the transition towards a circular economy can be leveraged to accelerate implementation of the 2030 Agenda and Sustainable Development Goals.

The discussion focused on:

  1. opportunities and challenges in transitioning from a linear to a circular economy,
  2. industries and stakeholders leading in the transition,
  3. the policy frameworks and platforms which are enabling this important shift,
  4. how partnerships between different sectors are helping to accelerate the adoption of a circular economy in different areas of the world.

On this occasion, Elena Simina Lakatos (Institute for Research in Circular Economy and Environment "Ernest Lupan" – IRCEM, Romania), member of the Coordination Group of the European Circular Economy Platform (ECESP), gave a presentation focused on ECESP and IRCEM in the framework of the panel discussion on Policies and platforms supporting the transition to a circular economy.
