Looking back over 2025
We're coming to the end of the year – and what a year it has been! The ECESP has organised and taken part in a number of events promoting the circular economy within and outside the EU and renewed its Coordination Group, made up of 24 members charged with acting as ambassadors of the ECESP. There has been plenty of activity on the legislative front, too, with the EU Bioeconomy Strategy and Environmental Omnibus package being published, and the Circular Economy Act taking shape.
Here are some highlights:
- The ECESP and the EESC led sessions on biodiversity credits and inclusive leadership during the World Circular Economy Forum 2025 in May.
- This year's Annual Conference was part of EU Green Week. Co-organised with the Circular Cities and Regions Initiative, it explored circularity as a driver of competitiveness and strategic autonomy, building on insights from the Stakeholder Dialogue in April.
- Then came the ECESP's Circular Economy Days at World Expo 2025 in Osaka. These discussions covered topics such as textiles and citizen engagement and showcased Europe’s circular diplomacy on the global stage.
- On 15 October, the new Coordination Group was announced. A mix of experienced and new members, they will work together to shape the Platform’s activities and foster the transition to a circular economy and bioeconomy in Europe.
- A couple of months later, a number of Coordination Group members responded to the call for evidence for the Circular Economy Act. Their priorities range from reuse to harmonised definitions to reinforcing EPR.
A busy year, then! The ECESP secretariat will be having a well-earned rest from 23 December: we will be back in action on 5 January. We wish you all happy, peaceful – and of course circular! – holidays.
