Ressourcerie Namuroise, a cooperative collecting, recycling and reusing waste

Bulky waste

The Ressourcerie Namuroise in Belgium provides collection and processing services for bulky household waste, while also helping people with scant marketable skills to break into the labour market. In 2017, the cooperative established a partnership with Namur's waste management authority, which enabled municipalities to outsource the collection of bulky items with a view to their reuse.

ACR+ is launching a publication on the development and implementation of circular bioeconomy strategies in different contexts, focusing on three detailed regional case studies in Navarre, Bayern and Flanders.

Under a cooperation agreement with the French Pays de la Loire region, ACR+ has set up a working group on the circular bioeconomy, with a focus on governance. The working group aims to support the development of local and regional roadmaps for the circular bioeconomy, as public authorities steer and support the development of the circular bioeconomy on their patch.

The publication is the result of activities implemented by ACR+ through the working group.

The final study report on Circular construction and renovation - Actions and recommendations to the Federal government for accelerating the circular economy in construction proposes actions to be taken by Belgium's federal government (and thus the regional levels as well), with a view to accelerating renovation and circular construction with respect to building materials.

More specifically, the study aims to identify relevant instruments, obstacles and measures which are either needed or already underway, and to issue general recommendations for the federal authorities. The study does not address ways to put these measures into effect or possible changes in the instruments.

Scope:

In 2018, the Spanish region of Andalusia introduced a progressive strategy towards a circular economy.

With the support of EU funding, the Andalusian Circular Bioeconomy Strategy project promotes sustainable growth and regional development by fostering the production of renewable and biological products and processes.

The targeted sectors include agriculture, forestry, fishing, food and paper production, as well as part of the chemical, biotechnology and energy industries.

The strategy works with a timeframe for 2030 and has resources worth around 1 400 million EUR, aimed at specific actions that have been developed with the collaboration of more than 50 external experts from the sectors of interest.

In France, SUEZ has invested EUR 10 million on the construction of a hub to recover waste from local businesses and authorities. Once sorted and recycled, the waste is then sold for reuse.
