The CEI BOOST project (Boosting Circular Economy Innovation through emerging technologies application) is funded by Interreg Europe. It aims to coordinate digitalisation and the circular economy in order to enable circular business models and accelerate the transition towards a sustainable circular economy.

It focuses on improving policy frameworks in nine countries to ensure that green growth and the digital transformation work together to support regional recovery and prosperity. The goal is to promote the uptake of emerging digital innovations that foster the development of the circular economy at regional, local or national level.

They began by mapping digital innovation and the circular economy in the countries involved in the project. This exercise looked at the state of play, policy instruments and future prospects for both areas.

Each partner then began tackling a policy instrument relevant to them, identifying what needs to be improved and ways to do so.

For instance, the Region of Västerbotten in Sweden is a regional public authority. It is focusing on Västerbotten's Regional Development Strategy which aims to make the region innovative and smart. CEI BOOST will work on circular material flows and production systems, the benefits and challenges of technological developments (including their social impact), platforms to identify or test experimental ideas and business models, and ways to foster cross-sectoral collaboration.
