9th International Seminar on Biopolymers and Sustainable Composites: what was discussed!
AIMPLAS held its 9th International Seminar on Biopolymers and Sustainable Composites earlier this week. It was an opportunity for technical debate on regulation, certification and innovation in the field of biopolymers.
The first day analysed how the new European regulatory framework, and especially the Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation, is driving material design towards certified compostability solutions. The various blocks explored issues such as experimental protocols aligned with methodological traceability standards for residues in leather, chemical recycling processes using neoteric solvents aimed at improving polymer stability and degradability, and the valorization of plant biomass.
The second day focused on the application of biopolymers in open environments and the potential of biodegradable plasticulture products within the circular economy. Success cases were highlighted, including new agricultural products improving water‑use efficiency in crops, the incorporation of natural inputs, and tomato, pepper and maize crops grown using INZEA biopolymers, which help optimise soil temperature and plant growth along circular lines. The sessions also gave a clear view of how the new technologies are being transferred to the market.
