Workshop on the global dimension of textiles in a circular economy

The new Circular Economy Action Plan identifies textiles as a key product value chain with potential to boost the EU market for sustainable and circular textiles

The European Commission is organising a series of targeted stakeholder workshops to gather input on challenges and gaps as well as opportunities for the sector towards sustainability.

The second workshop on 2 June 2021, at 13.30-17.30 CEST, will focus on the global dimension of textiles in a circular economy. The aims of this workshop are to:

  1. identify barriers for more environmentally and socially sustainable global textile production, trade of textile products as well as exported and imported textile waste and
  2. identify policy solutions for the EU to those barriers.

During the workshop, participants will also discuss how to create synergies with third countries to achieve such policy objectives and ensure a level playing field while considering work developed by organisations such as the UN or the OECD.

Remaining workshops will cover topics such as sustainable consumption and circular business models; traceability; product design for circularity; information, market surveillance and product passports; capacity for research and development; digitalisation.

To express your interest to participate in this second workshop, please preregister here by 21 May 2021.
