Ensuring access to strategic resources: the role for the circular economy

COVID-19 and Russia’s invasion of Ukraine have revealed the fragility of our modern economy and reminded the EU of the need to ensure access to strategically important resources. As set out in the European Green Deal, the EU needs certain technologies, materials, components or skills to maintain and achieve sustainable prosperity and competitiveness. These include critical raw materials, crucial for achieving the EU’s climate neutrality and digital transition.

This Policy Dialogue will take place on 7 June starting at 14:00 CEST. It will consider the importance of strategic resources, notably critical raw materials, for achieving the European Green Deal objectives, and the role for a circular economy in enabling access to those resources.
