Textiles in Romania: Between the EU Waste Framework Directive and National Implementation
The conference will be held under the patronage of the Environment Committee of the Romanian Senate and the Committee for Environment and Ecological Balance of the Chamber of Deputies.
It will bring together policymakers, public authorities, industry representatives, NGOs and international experts to discuss the national implementation of Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) for textiles under the new EU Directive.
The agenda includes panel discussions on separate textile collection, reuse, repair, upcycling and recycling solutions, as well as European best practices and lessons learned from other Member States.
A key focus will be the economic dimension of the transition — including opportunities for small workshops, local repair businesses and social enterprises to become active players in the circular textile value chain.
Beyond policy dialogue, the event will also feature a small exhibition space and an upcycling corner showcasing products developed by students from the National University of Arts (UNArte), who created design concepts from reused textile materials. This practical component highlights innovation, community engagement and the creative potential of circular textiles.
The objective of the conference is to foster constructive dialogue between authorities and industry, accelerate the development of a functional textile collection, upcycling and recycling system in Romania, and contribute to the broader goals of circular economy and climate action.
This conference will be held in hybrid format (in-person and online) on 31 March. It will be in Romanian. Programme.
