The European Commission adopted the communication on the New Consumer Agenda, which sets out the EC’s strategic vision on consumer policy for the next few years. The Agenda addresses the immediate challenges facing European consumers, stemming from the COVID-19 pandemic, as well as challenges in five longer-term cross-cutting priority areas: the green (including circular) and digital transitions, enforcement of EU law, addressing consumers’ vulnerabilities, and international cooperation.

The Agenda provides for the establishment of a Consumer Policy Advisory Group. This group brings together representatives from consumer organisations, civil society and industry in support of the Consumer Agenda. It conveys stakeholders’ views on the implementation of the Agenda, which comprises both an overall vision and 22 actions in key consumer policy areas.

There are still several seats to fill, and the European Commission would encourage environmental organisations and individual experts to apply. The deadline for applications is 20 May 2021.

The call is available here under the tab ‘Continuously open calls’.
