The 11th meeting of the EU Platform on Food Losses and Food Wastechaired by Ms. Nathalie Chaze, Director, Food sustainability, international relations, will be held virtually on 18 November 2021 from 9:30 to 16:30 CET. This is the last meeting of the current Platform before its re-establishment with a new membership, starting 2022.

The meeting will provide the opportunity to take stock of the achievements in food loss and waste prevention at EU level in the Platform's five years of mandate (2016-2021) and discuss on-going and planned work. It will kick-start with an opening statement by EU Commissioner for Health and Food Safety Stella Kyriakides. The Commission will give an update on its on-going food waste prevention work and update members on the feedback received through the consultation launched via the Have Your Say portal on the setting of legally binding targets to reduce food waste in the EU, a flagship initiative of the Farm to Fork Strategy.

The Platform will also discuss on-going and future projects, such as the European Consumer Food Waste Forum, a multi-disciplinary forum bringing together researchers and practitioners to work together to find solutions and develop tools to help reduce consumer food waste.

Members of the Platform will also discuss the EU Code of Conduct on Responsible Food Business and Marketing Practices and its related food loss and waste commitments as well as global developments following the UN Food Systems Summit and the implementation of the Food is Never Waste coalition in the EU.

Platform members representing key stages of the food supply chain (primary production, manufacturing, retail, hospitality/food services, consumers), including food donation, will take the floor to present food waste prevention actions taken in their sectors. They will also comment on the implementation of the key recommendations for action in food waste prevention formulated by the Platform in 2019.
