C4B Open Call for bioeconomy projects able to test and validate innovative business models

The C4B project (Circular Bio-Based Business Models to create high-value bio-based products in integrated value chains) is launching its Open Call 2026 to help innovative ideas move from concept to practice, contributing to the development of a circular and competitive European bioeconomy.

It will support projects that are ready to:

  • Test and validate innovative business models
  • Integrate sustainability, fairness and circularity from the outset
  • Demonstrate scalability in real regional contexts.

The main objective is to demonstrate the applicability, scalability and replicability of the business models developed as part of the project. 

There are three categories of business models: 

  • Forestry: 
  1. Forestry Residue for Essential Oils and Hydrosol Extraction Model
  2. Industrial Biocarbon from Forestry Substitution Model
  • Agri-food: 
  1. Cereal Residue Valorisation Model
  2. Milling Residue Functional Food/Nutraceuticals Model
  3. Centralised Industrial Potato Residue Valorisation Model
  4. On-Farm Biorefinery for Apple Residues Model
  5. Regional Supply of 70% Purity Polyphenol from Grape Pomace for Supplements Valorisation Model
  6. High Purity Cosmetic-Grade Polyphenol Extraction Cooperative from Grape Pomace Model
  • Peatlands:
  1. Wetland Biomass Biorefinery and Ecosystem Services Model 

Applicants are expected to propose a Pilot Project that demonstrates the feasibility of one of these business model. At least a TRL 4-5 should be in place.

The maximum funding per project is EUR 60 000. The expected duration is up to 12 months.
