Scope

NBN ensures the development of standards in Belgium by developing, publishing and disseminating them at national level. Standards are agreements on how to do things as well as possible.

On 6 February 2024 (13:30 - 17:30 CET) NBN is holding a free kick-off event to mark the launch of the Belgian activities within the new European standards committee - CEN/TC 473 'Circular Economy', set up by CEN, the organisation that develops and publishes standards at the European level.

NBN already has a Belgian mirror committee with around 30 experts involved in the work of the international ISO committee.

The new CEN committee will be highly important for two reasons:

  • It will adopt existing international standards (ISO) as European standards.
  • It will develop new European standards directly related to European regulations and policies. These new standards will be specific to the European market.

The Belgian mirror committee will closely follow what happens within the CEN committee and contribute to the drafting of those standards.

The kick-off event, in English, will consist of 5 parts:

  1. Standardisation - What and how
  2. Standardisation and the circular economy
  3. Circular Economy action plan: EU and Belgium, Claire Lefevre, FPS Economy
  4. How standards (will) help organisations, Jan Daem, Barco
  5. Networking drink.
