DPPs are intended to provide the information needed to repair a product, reuse its components and enable efficient disposal at end of life. However, a DPP only does circular work if the person holding the product can read it. 

In practice, a passport is written in the manufacturer's own language, and the repairer, the second-hand buyer, the recycler and the market surveillance officer are usually in another Member State. Translation into 23 further languages is a cost small manufacturers cannot carry, so the information either stops at the border or is never published at all.

WIARA makes multilingual publication the default rather than a paid extra. A manufacturer enters product data once. When the DPP is published, the free-text values they wrote are machine-translated into every enabled EU language, cached so unchanged text costs nothing to republish, and baked into a static page - so nothing is translated when a consumer scans the code and the page opens on a phone in a warehouse or a collection yard. Readers using a non-source language see a notice stating "automatically translated - view original", one click from the manufacturer's own wording, so machine text is never passed off as authored text. A per-passport, per-language editor lets a person correct or override any value.

Each passport is a permanent URL on EU-hosted infrastructure, opened from the product by QR code or GS1 Digital Link at model, batch or item level. The three access levels provided for by EU law - public, economic operator, market surveillance authority - are enforced field by field, so a recycler sees composition and disassembly information without the manufacturer exposing commercial data.

  • Eight complete worked passports are published and publicly scannable without registration, so manufacturers, chambers of commerce and students can examine a real passport rather than a specification. A free tier of three passports lets a small manufacturer publish real ones before committing a budget.
