Squaring-up for a circular economy – Let’s make a change happen!

The SITE4Society events, initiated by Prof. Shyama V. Ramani, in United Nations University-MERIT, aim to create dialogue and cooperation between students, researchers, firms, municipalities, public authorities, NGOs and other community stakeholders on pathways to attain the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG). Their mission is to mobilize academics and students to contribute to local and global challenges, via research, action-research, workshops, training programmes and publication briefs.

On 3 May 2019, the 6th SITE4Society event will take place in Bonn, as part of the SDG Global Festival of Action 2019. It will be co-organised by United Nations University-MERIT and United Nations University-FLORES.

The objectives of this interactive workshop are as follows:

  • to raise awareness of the concept of the circular economy and the linkages with multiple SDGs;
  • to communicate why and how the transition to circular economy could be facilitated through the ‘Science, Innovation, Technology and Engagement (SITE)’ variables;
  • to highlight the role and importance of behavioural change strategies (‘nudge’), which are being increasingly used for effective policy-making;
  • to challenge the participants to discuss and generate ideas to overcome real challenges faced by key stakeholders within the system.
