The Med4Waste project (Mediterranean Dialogue for Waste Management Governance) aims to facilitate new governance models for efficient urban waste management policies across the Mediterranean, with particular emphasis on organic waste and the circular economy.

The project ran from 1 October 2021 to 30 November 2023 and involved partners from Spain, Greece, Tunisia, Lebanon, Jordan and Italy. It was funded by the ENI CBC Med Mediterranean Sea Basin Programme on sustainable waste management and the Union for the Mediterranean (UfM) provided regular policy and technical advice.

This toolkit distills the lessons learned during the Med4Waste project and five other projects under the ENI CBC Med programme. It explores the state of play in the Mediterranean waste management sector, looking at challenges and bottlenecks. It uses this information to produce recommendations and policy guidelines for national, regional and local authorities seeking to enhance sustainable municipal waste management and specifically its organic component. The end goal is to promote better governance in the sustainable use of resources and management of waste.

The toolkit is also available in French and Arabic.
