Measuring what matters: Potential circular economy performance indicators for automotive suppliers
Measuring what matters: Potential circular economy performance indicators for automotive suppliers
This report has been developed by the European Association of Automotive Suppliers' Tier-1 supplier experts. It provides an analytical assessment of existing circular economy frameworks, standards and indicators from the specific perspective of automotive suppliers.
Its objective is to examine how current circularity measurement approaches to complex automotive supply chains apply in practice and to identify areas where further methodological development and alignment would be beneficial.
In particular, the report:
- reviews key EU regulatory and standardisation frameworks (including ESPR, CSRD/ESRS, ISO 59020 and ISO 59040);
- assesses the maturity, applicability and data availability of selected circularity indicators at both product and company level;
- identifies priority indicators that could support more consistent and meaningful measurement of circularity in the automotive supply chain.
It takes into account the complexity of components, long product lifecycles, safety requirements and distributed data ownership across the value chain. Accordingly, it offers useful insights for policymakers, stakeholders and other sectors facing similar measurement challenges.
