Summary of the pledge
Repsol is a polyolefin manufacturer with 1.2m tons of production in Europe and has been committed to innovation for years, in order to increase the circularity and efficient use of the plastic materials it produces.
Repsol is fully committed to the circular economy of plastics and has signed up a voluntary commitment to increase the circularity and efficiency of resources following the European Commission’s pledging campaign. In this sense, Repsol has launched Reciclex project in 2018: the approach is to manufacture and commercialize polyolefins that incorporate a maximum percentage of recycled plastics that does not undermine the functionality of the virgin material in the final application. Therefore, converters can use recycled plastics in more demanding technical applications where currently is not feasible. This strategic project involves agreements with different members of the value chain with the aim to reach new markets and more technically demanding final applications.
Repsol will also make a proposal to incorporate recycled plastics in the formulation of our multilayer 25kg industrial bags for pellets, contributing to directly create a larger demand of recycled plastics. Finally, Repsol is a pioneer in the use of pyrolysis oils as a feedstock for its petrochemical site. Implementation at industry scale is still work in progress but we expect to offer a new portfolio of resins chemically recycled to our value chain. At this stage, we cannot disclose the figures.
