Summary of the pledge
Whirlpool very much welcomes the European Commission’s Plastics Strategy and its ambition to reduce plastic waste. Although the European home appliance sector uses just 0.5% of the world’s plastic production and less than 1% of the EU’s packaging waste comes from appliance packaging, we all have our part to play in reducing plastic waste and Whirlpool is ready to be among the frontrunners.

Whirlpool has a long and proven track record in environmental protection and sustainability, developing high-performing, innovative appliances that not only help conserve our limited resources by consuming less water and energy, but are also affordable and accessible for consumers. We are committed to the circular economy, resource efficiency, recycling, and reusing materials from our manufacturing processes and products at end of life.

We have also decided to take part in the Commission’s voluntary pledging campaign to boost the uptake of recycled plastics; we are pledging to ensure most of the plastic components of our appliances will be made of recycled plastics by 2025.
