Scope

The EU-funded project URSOILL is tackling the growing degradation of urban soils caused by sealing, pollution and compaction. It is establishing five urban Living Labs in Sweden, Spain, Italy, Greece and Luxembourg where local communities, researchers and policymakers collaborate to co-create, test and implement innovative solutions for urban soil restoration.

The project is organising the first City Soil Health Knowledge Forum. This will bring together perspectives from technical risk management and urban planning to explore how cities can move from discovering soil degradation and contamination towards informed action and urban soil restoration.

The webinar will look at:

  • City-to-city learning: local authorities’ experience with soil quality indices, adapting soil monitoring practices to urban soils and contexts, and developing risk-based approaches.
  • Alignment of existing tools: How can municipalities align their current partnerships and policy instruments with forthcoming EU requirements?
  • Risk management: Assessing the technical, economic and social risks of increasing the visibility of contamination, including the polluter pays principle.

This webinar will take place at 10:00-13:00 CET on 28 October. It will be in English. See the agenda and register.
