Digital Product Passport: What fashion and textile businesses need to know, with insights from the British Standards Institution

This webinar will explore the forthcoming Digital Product Passport (DPP) requirements and their potential impact on the fashion and textile industry, with a particular focus on small and medium-sized enterprises in the EU. It will unpack the state of play of DPP legislation and how these developments fit into the broader Ecodesign for Sustainable Products Regulation (ESPR). It will also look at how international and European standards are being developed to support DPP implementation, helping businesses, especially SMEs, align their operations and data practices with future requirements.

This introductory webinar is organised by The Centre for Sustainable Design® at UCA in collaboration with the British Standards Institution as part of the EU Just Fashion project. Just Fashion aims to accelerate climate transition in the fashion industry, by providing businesses in the partner countries with a reference framework and tools to shift their production methods, internal procedures and final products towards more sustainable models that are low carbon, circular and socially inclusive.

The webinar will be led by Professor Martin Charter and Dr Virginie Litaudon from The Centre for Sustainable Design® at UCA with input from BSI and UKFT.

This webinar will help participants:

  • understand the Digital Product Passport (DPP): Gain insights into the purpose, scope and timeline of the DPP as part of the ESPR.
  • explore specific DPP requirements: Learn what data elements the DPP may include and how it affects product design, transparency and supply chains.
  • learn how standards can support compliance: Understand how relevant standards (ISO, CEN, BSI) are being developed to guide DPP implementation and ensure consistency.
  • identify practical next steps for SMEs: Discover how small businesses can start preparing now for DPP adoption and regulatory alignment.

The webinar is relevant for owners, product developers and compliance managers in EU-based SMEs and in the fashion and clothing industry, as well as suppliers to the industry.
