The Horizon Europe project INBUILT aims to bring about a shift in the European construction industry by integrating circular economy principles and digitalisation. By using locally sourced materials and reusing components, it seeks to reduce waste and strengthen the resilience of the construction sector. 

The project will scale up and demonstrate 10 innovative products and systems, including large-sized rammed earth blocks, recycled fired and non-fired bricks and hybrid straw-clay boards.

A core goal is to reduce the environmental footprint of buildings, which requires high quality and detailed data on the life cycle impacts of individual construction products. Furthermore, over the last decade, the publication of Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs) has grown exponentially, not only for voluntary sustainability initiatives, but also in response to emerging regulatory requirements mandating the disclosure of verifiable environmental data

The project is organising a webinar to explore how Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) can be both a rigorous environmental tool and a strategic asset for the product development of buildings and for supporting innovation, market readiness and commercialisation. Industry experts, including LCA assessors and manufacturers, will share practical insights on integrating LCA into sustainable product development, with a focus on the emerging and highly innovative products developed by the INBUILT project.

The webinar is geared to the needs of building products manufacturers, architects, sustainability/ESG investors, EPD programme operators/certification bodies and LCA practitioners. 

Topics include:

• how integrating LCA at an early stage supports innovation, not just reporting
• the importance of a good data audit trail 
• practical ways to reduce cost, time and friction when developing LCA and EPDs
• how LCA can accelerate market uptake
