Summary of the pledge
Building on its commitment to recycle 800,000 tonnes of PVC by 2020, VinylPlus commits to recycle a minimum of 900,000 tonnes of PVC per year into new products by 2025, and a minimum of 1 million tonnes per year by 2030 in the framework of “The European Plastics Industry Circular Economy Voluntary Commitments -Towards 50% Plastics Waste Recycling” of Jan 2018.

Recycling will be essentially, but not exclusively, in construction and infrastructure products. Recycling is ensured by the network of recyclers of Recovinyl www.recovinyl.com, the European PVC industry initiative, created in 2003 as part of the Vinyl 2010 Voluntary Commitment to advance the sustainable development of the PVC industry by developing recycling processes and boosting the collection and recycling of PVC waste. Recovinyl works in partnership with waste management companies, recyclers, converters and public authorities. Production of new products using recyclate will be carried out by PVC converters, most of them being VinylPlus partners. Recycled volumes are audited and verified by an independent auditor and presented to the VinylPlus Monitoring Committee, comprising representatives of the Commission, Parliament, consumer organisation, academia, trade union and industry, twice per year.
