Rediscover Furniture promotes upcycling by giving new life to old furniture
The Rediscovery Centre is the National Centre for the Circular Economy in Ireland. It is a creative movement connecting people, ideas and resources to support greener low-carbon living. It brings together the skills and expertise of artists, scientists, designers and craftspeople united in a common purpose of sustainability.
Rediscover Furniture is a furniture restoration and upcycling social enterprise housed at the Rediscovery Centre in Ballymun, Dublin. Its programme is aligned to the sustainable ethos of the Centre. The team uses traditional methods and environmentally friendly practices in all of their work to restore old furniture. The pieces are available for sale at the Centre, providing sustainable furniture.
Along with providing job training to the long-term unemployed, Rediscover Furniture hosts numerous public workshops focused on sustainable furniture restoration.
- Rediscover Furniture has provided critical job and skills training to over 30 trainees and participants, the vast majority of whom have gone onto employment or further education.
- New life has been given to old furniture that would otherwise have been destined for landfill.
- The programme has created a source of affordable furniture for residents of North Dublin.
- Rediscover Furniture also offers furniture courses, upcycling courses and a repairs and restoration service to those looking to preserve or restore furniture in a sustainable way.
