The 2025 Environmental Implementation Review (EIR): challenges and opportunities of environmental implementation
The European Commission and the European Committee of the Regions will host the presentation of the 2025 Environmental Implementation Review (EIR), a regular reporting tool designed to improve the implementation of EU environmental laws and policies.
When EU laws are not properly implemented, the Commission can take legal action. However, to avoid reaching that stage, the Commission first offers technical support to Member States to guide them through implementation. The EIR is a useful tool that presents a snapshot of implementation shortcomings and the priority actions which must be taken to redress them.
The EIR looks at:
- circular economy and waste management
- biodiversity and natural capital
- zero pollution (air quality, industrial emissions, major industrial accidents prevention, noise, water quality and management)
- chemicals
- climate action.
The event will include a panel discussion with EU institutions, business and civil society representatives. It will take stock of the implementation of environmental legislation in the EU and discuss the challenges and opportunities involved in closing the implementation gap.
The event will take place at 10:30 to 12:00 CEST on 7 July. Participants can attend in person at the headquarters of the European Committee of the Regions or online. There will be interpreting. Registration.
