The 1st meeting of the EU Platform on Food Losses and Food Waste in its new mandate (2022-2026) will be held virtually on 17 February 2022. Members will discuss how the Platform and its sub-groups will operate in the next five years as well as the priority areas of work for the expert group.

The meeting will kick-start with an opening video statement by EU Commissioner for Health and Food Safety Stella Kyriakides. The Commission will give an update on the implementation of the Farm to Fork Strategy and discuss with members the role of food loss and waste prevention and the contribution of the Platform to the establishment of sustainable food systems. Members will also be informed about progress made on EU-level actions to reduce food loss and waste.

The Platform will adopt its Rules of procedure and exchange on the priority areas of work, tasks and objectives of the five sub-groups proposed for the new Platform:

  1. Food donation
  2. Food loss and waste monitoring
  3. Consumer food waste prevention
  4. Date marking and food waste prevention
  5. Action & Implementation.
