How to plan and implement a circular business model in a social enterprise
The Erasmus+ project SocialECOnomy brings together social enterprises and non-profit organisations from Austria, Poland, Germany and Italy to jointly strengthen the principles of the circular economy and promote environmental sustainability.
Circularity is key for social enterprises, as it in line with the core values of sustainability, the common good and social responsibility. By implementing circular principles, such as waste prevention, material reuse and strengthening local resource cycles, these companies can not only increase their resilience and reduce operating costs, but also create long-term value for their communities and actively contribute to environmental protection.
In order to help social enterprises become more circular, the project has produced the Circular Business Model Toolkit (available in English and German). It helps social enterprises transition their operations to circular processes step by step. It explains the basic principles of the circular economy, demonstrates practical methods, such as design thinking tools, for developing sustainable solutions, and guides users through all phases of the transformation.
Using four case studies from Poland, Germany, Italy and Austria, it demonstrates how social enterprises are successfully implementing circular measures in sectors such as the food service industry, textile recycling and educational work. The toolkit offers practical guides, SMART planning tools and numerous tips for increasing environmental, social and economic impact.
