The coronavirus outbreak has had a perceptible impact on our use of electronics and digital solutions, with people relying on e-products to keep themselves connected with colleagues, families and friends. This has not only increased the use of technology in the home, it has also led to a rise in the consumption of e-products.

According to a study commissioned by the European Parliament, in the European Union the demand for personal computers and tablets rose by 4.6% year-on-year until December 2020. In this context, it is even more important to make users aware of the options that exist for their end-of-life equipment.

During past International E-Waste Day events, the activities of WEEE Forum members and other participants have ranged from conferences to school and city collection campaigns to competitions and games. In 2020, lots of creativity was shown to raise awareness in accordance with restrictions and many great online (and physical where possible) activities took place.

This year too, all organisations touching on the issue of effective and circular e-waste management are invited to plan awareness-raising activities for 14 October and join us by registering on the event page. Any initiative promoting sound e-waste collection, repair, reuse or recycling is welcome to take part in International E-Waste Day 2021!
