Description

The Environmental change project (European start-uppers thinking and acting – the solution for common sustainable development) aims to improve and validate the environmental competences of start-uppers, young entrepreneurs and VET providers. It focuses on the transition to natural energy, biodiversity and ecological transformation, plastic waste management, ecodesign, the circular economy and lifecycle thinking.

The consortium has a variety of geographical and professional backgrounds which will help ensure that this multilevel project is delivered successfully. Specifically, the consortium promotes synergies between partners, which vary from a development agency (RARR), a university (UM), a technical institute (TIHC), an NGO and umbrella organisation (CETEM) and SMEs (DANMAR, Mindshift).

Through this project, the partners want both to help enterprising, active people to develop their professional competences, and to equip start-up sectors with specific knowledge concerning sustainable business practices. Experiences with start-ups are generally analysed not at local or regional level but across countries, because those firms operate in specific, mostly high-tech sectors.

The project report presents the state of play of the circular economy, climate change and sustainability development in some EU countries using a qualitative research methodology: the focus group.

Main activity field
Main results
  • Public organisations must keep working to promote the circular economy through training and by building and co-creating activities with consumers and individuals, striving to demonstrate all environmental activities related to circular economy initiatives, running a multilevel management strategy, etc.
  • The VET trainers (participants in the focus groups) still feel the need to have access to one or more platforms that collect information, resources and materials on these topics. Currently the information seems to be too scattered.
  • Measures such as green public procurement are key to promoting circularity and sustainable development in organisations.
  • There is still a long way to go to raise awareness about the circular economy in terms of competences and skills.
