Sonae Arauco: Sustainable wood-based panels made from wood industry by-products
Sonae Arauco is a wood-based panel producer that contributes to the circular economy through the recovery of wood waste.
They have developed a close value chain that reuses and recycles the wood residues generated during the production process. These residues are integrated into wood-based panels, ensuring that this waste is not burned or sent to a landfill.
Wood-based panels are a sustainable solution for encouraging the responsible use of forest resources. They offer an efficient alternative to wood that can be recycled and is more energy efficient and flexible, as well as acting as carbon storage which helps reduce CO2 emissions.
At the end of their lifespan, the wood panels can be recycled and transformed into new products in a continuous recycling process. Sonae Arauco has been awarded PEFC (Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification) and FSC (Forest Stewardship Council®) (FSC-C013589) chain of custody certification, recognising the use of wood-based raw materials from responsible sources.
