Can aerospace really close the loop?
The aerospace sector faces growing pressure to reduce its environmental footprint. Achieving this requires more than making aircraft lighter and more fuel-efficient: it also means rethinking how materials are designed and sourced, how components are manufactured, and what happens to them at the end of their service life.
Carbon fibre composites are essential to modern aircraft design because of their strength and low weight, but recycling them remains a significant challenge. Addressing this requires innovation across the entire value chain, from sustainable material design and manufacturing optimisation to digital technologies, life-cycle assessment and end-of-life recovery.
#FlightPaths, a webinar series organised by the ATLAS Cluster, brings together researchers from five Horizon Europe projects to explore these interconnected challenges.
The webinar will feature five expert presentations, followed by a cross-project panel discussion and audience Q&A. Participants will find out about emerging technologies, explore connections between different research approaches and discuss what it will take to make aerospace more circular.
Whether you work in aerospace research, materials science, manufacturing, sustainability or policy, or are interested in the future of sustainable aviation, this webinar is an opportunity to engage with the latest European research.
This webinar will take place at 10:00–12:00 CET on 24 November via Microsoft Teams.
