Driving food waste reduction: the power of stakeholder engagement

The 2025 International Day of Awareness of Food Loss and Waste (IDAFLW) highlights the need to step up stakeholder efforts to reduce food loss and waste, a critical aspect of securing sustainable food for all in the future.

Targeted and active stakeholder engagement is key for effective measures to prevent and reduce food loss and waste. Stakeholder engagement, whether through public-private partnerships or voluntary agreements, is a powerful tool for bringing together policy makers, food businesses, civil society and academia. It helps establish trust, encourages knowledge exchange and supports practical behaviour change.

By aligning stakeholders around shared goals and enabling flexible, tailored solutions, stakeholder engagement accelerates progress toward SDG Target 12.3 and the future EU food waste reduction targets.

The European Commission and the Food and Agriculture Organization's Brussels Office are organising a webinar to highlight the vital role that stakeholder engagement, including public-private partnerships, voluntary agreements, and collaborative and multisectoral platforms, play in advancing food waste reduction. It will share practical insights and inspire stakeholders looking to start or strengthen their own partnerships and agreements, whether in Europe, South America or other parts of the globe.

This event will take place in English at 16:00-17:30 CEST on 29 September via Zoom. You do not need to register: you can find more information and the link to join here.
