Urban living lab workshop on designing and prototyping an off-grid PV panels e-bike charging station
SMILE CITY is a cross-cutting EU-funded project focusing on developing innovative and sustainable solutions for urban mobility. It provides realistic circular systemic solutions to support the evolution towards a carbon-neutral, environmentally sustainable, toxic-free circular economy by 2050. It contributes to reducing C02 emissions by:
- making intensive use of recycled materials rather than virgin ones, without decreasing the performance of the end products;
- using such products and applications to increase sustainable mobility.
The main solution, Pilot, is an off-grid PV panels e-bike charging station made using as many recycled materials as possible. The Pilot includes:
- a concrete pre-cast structure comprising the support system (concrete structure) for the roof-type photovoltaic panels; the secure housing for the second-life batteries; any other street furniture or additional features (seating, lighting, information space),
- aerial PV panels (roofing type),
- second-life EV batteries for electric power storage.
During the workshop, experts from various fields and countries will describe the project, the materials and components developed, their performance and their use. The workshop is free and open to everyone interested in sustainable design, renewable energy and the circular economy, and is particularly relevant to:
- University and technical college students;
- Recent graduates, scientists and researchers;
- Designers;
- Makers, digital artisans, technicians and local innovators;
- Professionals and companies.
Given the European dimension of the event, the workshop will be held in English (speakers and presentations). A summary in Italian will be provided at the end of each presentation if required. Furthermore, in the afternoon session on Issues and Options – Open Discussion, the event organisers will provide any linguistic support needed to facilitate discussion and clarification on the topics covered.
The event will take place at 09.30 to 16.00 CET on 3 December. Attending in person (CNR, Piazzale Aldo Moro 7, Rome) will be better, but you can follow online. Registration and programme.
