European Week for Waste Reduction: see what's being organised and propose your own activities!
Taking place from 21 to 29 November, EWWR 2026 is all about material sufficiency. Driven by local and regional public authorities, it brings together individuals, schools, businesses, NGOs and associations to encourage people to think and learn more about how to reduce and prevent waste, and to realise just why that is necessary.
The goal is to rethink material consumption and waste at source – not just recycle waste. Instead, the focus is on those famous R's - rethink, reduce, reuse, repair, recycle, refurbish and remanufacture!
EWWR provides a forum to learn about the latest challenges in terms of resource use and to inspire change at national, regional and local levels. It inspires communities to come together as part of grassroots projects to combat pollution and encourages creative solutions for waste prevention.
This an opportunity to rethink the entire way we produce, consume and use resources!
There are plenty of ways to get involved, from conferences to contests.
Have a look at what is already being organised. The EWWR website has a map of actions planned around Europe on the theme of waste prevention – from a classroom-based initiative in Malta on which types of waste could potentially have been avoided, to an circular urban sharing concept in Portugal and a clothes swap in Estonia.
Design your own initiative and add it to the map - the call is open till 15 November!
