Following the event on Traceability, accuracy of information and market surveillance (12 July 2021), the European Commission is organising an online workshop on 15 July, from 14:00 to 17:00 CEST, on increasing the capacity of research and development in the EU Textile Industry, as part of the consultative process for the development of the Strategy for Sustainable Textiles. It will focus on the current and possible upcoming initiatives for research and development in the EU textile industry, identifying the bottlenecks, and finding solutions to tackle these challenges.

The workshop’s objectives are to:

  • get an overview of the existing R&D support initiatives in the EU textile industry, to identify the areas that are currently successful, and the areas that need more support in the future
  • understand the strategic needs of the textile industry, identifying the different challenges and barriers the current R&D support programmes are facing, and the reasons behind them.
  • identify the successful tools for the EU to use in order to support R&D in the textile industry, and find any additional initiatives that could be used in the future.
  • identify the roles of different actors (public institutions, industry actors, investors, financial organisations, research institutions, etc.) in these support processes.
