Traceability, accuracy of information and market surveillance - a workshop in view of the development of the EU Strategy for Sustainable Textiles

An online workshop on Traceability, the accuracy of information and market surveillance in the Textile Industry will be held by the DG GROW of the European Commission on 12 July 2021, from 10:00 to 13:00 CEST, as part of the consultative process for the development of the Strategy for Sustainable Textiles. It will focus on the impact of traceability, the accuracy of information and market surveillance on consumers.

The workshop's objectives are:

  • Identifying bottlenecks and barriers in relation to the collection, distribution along value chain and communication to market operators (consumers) of complete and trustworthy information, which will support the competitiveness of the European companies
  • Identifying solutions and tools for the collection of such information, which would also facilitate the work of market surveillance authorities
  • Identifying information requirements that could be included in policy tools (such as product passport) and the ways to collect them, taking into account the complexity of the value chain
  • Debating on whether the Textiles Regulation is “fit for purpose” to provide sufficient information to economic operators and consumers.
