Description:

Based on research initiated in 2008, Pryme has developed a new approach to an existing and proven chemical recycling technology in order to become a game changer in plastics recycling. Pryme has optimised the industry-known pyrolysis process by adding proprietary characteristics. In this way, the company is able to convert waste plastics into petrochemical products with a high conversion rate, at a large scale and with a low carbon footprint – in a highly cost-efficient way.

Their first processing plant with 60 000 tonnes of annual intake capacity is under construction in the port of Rotterdam and will become operational in 2022.

Main results:
  1. Pryme's technology and process are the result of years of research and development and rooted in broad experience of industrial processes.
  2. With a projected capital expenditure of EUR 700 per tonne of oil output per year, their cost structure is highly efficient and considerably lower than that of other plastic recycling companies.
  3. The chemical recycling of plastics produces very little CO2 compared to incineration. Each Pryme reactor line of 40 000 tonnes will avoid 92 000 tonnes of CO2 emissions each year by using chemical recycling (pyrolysis) of plastic waste rather than incineration (energy recovery).
  4. Moreover, Pryme aims to procure 100% of their electricity needs from renewable sources, thereby ensuring a low carbon footprint.
