Circular sanitation - Why and how can cities and regions close nutrient loops?

What are nutrient cycles? Why is it crucial for the health, the environment and the economy of our cities and regions? What are the issues with the current sanitation system?

This session will introduce the concept of circular sanitation and will show the benefits of closing nitrogen and phosphorus loops. Using examples from all over Europe, it will present policies and measures that local and regional authorities can implement to make circular sanitation a reality. Featuring experts and practitioners, this session will be interactive and focus on practical solutions.

It will build on results from the Horizon Europe P2GreeN project, which aims to foster a paradigm shift from a linearly organised resource and nutrient system within the agri-food supply chain, towards a circular material flow system between urban and rural areas.

This online session is a side event of the European Week of Regions and Cities.

It will be in English and will take place online at 10:30-12:00 CEST on Friday 24 October. Register here.
