Innovation in high-value products from agri-food residues (Agriloop project)

AgriLoop is a groundbreaking, four-year project funded by Europe and China. It has now spent two years developing innovative processes to convert underexploited agricultural by-products - representing roughly 50% of harvested crops - into sustainable alternatives to conventional oil- and crop-based products. This opens up new opportunities for bio-based proteins, polyesters and chemicals derived from tomato, potato, peanut, fungi and livestock production.

The Agriloop project will host an international conference in April. It will bring together leading researchers, industry experts and policymakers to discuss progress and future directions, and highlight promising advances in the transformation of agricultural residues from the food industry.

Agenda:

Day one: Monday 7 April at 13:00–17:30 (07:00-11:30 CEST)

  • Welcome and opening
  • Session 1: Circular economy vision and priorities in the EU and China, and co-funding opportunities
  • Session 2: Circularity and safety of innovative value chains of agricultural residues

Day two: Tuesday 8 April at 09:00-18:30 (03:00-12:30 CEST)

  • Session 3: Circularity and safety of innovative value chains of agricultural residues
  • Session 4: Bioconversion of agri-residues into microbial and fungal proteins and microbial polyesters
  • Session 5: Upscaling biorefineries from and for the farming sector in frugal conditions
  • Session 6: Networking and roundtable discussions

This event will take place in English on 7-8 April at the Hubei Hotel, Beijing and online. Registration is already closed for in-person participation but still open for remote attendance. The sessions will also be recorded and made available on the project's Youtube channel so you need not miss out because of the time difference.
