ECESP Coordination Group re-elects Chair and looks forward to 2020

The Coordination Group (CG) of the European Circular Economy Stakeholder Platform (ECESP) met for the third time on 17 October 2019 in Brussels. At this meeting, the CG first re-elected Ladeja Godina Košir as Chair:

"It was an exciting honour to be able to contribute to systemic change as first chairwoman of this group accelerating the circular transition. I am honoured again to have regained your confidence and hope that in the coming year, we will continue sharing and disseminating knowledge to bring about concrete change."

CG members subsequently reviewed activities for 2019, including, inter alia, the 4th Circular Change Conference in Maribor, newly launched Consumer Insight Action Plan, and research mapping Circular Economy networks in Europe.

They also discussed repositioning the structure and objectives of the Platform in view of the new European Parliament and incoming European Commission, as well as linking with other initiatives in the field of biodiversity, industrial policy and climate objectives. The incoming President of the European Commission, Ursula van der Leyen, has already stressed that the Second Circular Economy Action Plan will be an important part of the so-called "Green New Deal" and a key driver for achieving a Europe without pollution.

At this meeting, CG members discussed three key questions to set priorities for the final year of their mandate:

  1. How do you assess your CG membership and contribution to ECESP to date?
  2. What should the CG prioritise in the final year of its mandate (incl. conference 2020)?
  3. Which activities do you envisage for 2020 that could contribute to the Coordination Group?

Focusing on next steps, the CG held an exchange of views on how to jointly engage policy-makers and collaborate more internally.

Minutes from this meeting and the 2018 - 2019 annual activity report will be available shortly.
