Alexandre Affre is Director for the Industrial Affairs department at BusinessEurope, the leading advocate for growth and competitiveness at European level. In this role since 2013, Alexandre is responsible for developing and communicating the organization’s positions on energy, climate and environmental policy as well as industrial policy and research & innovation. Prior to that, he worked at the wildlife trade monitoring network of WWF and IUCN. Alexandre is a trained scientist and holds a Master in Ecology from the Université Pierre et Marie Curie.

FEAD is the European Federation representing the European waste management industry. FEAD’s members are national waste management associations covering 19 Member States, Norway and Serbia. They have an approximate 60% share in the household waste market and handle more than 75% of industrial and commercial waste in Europe. Their combined annual turnover is approximately € 75 billion. FEAD represents about 3000 companies with activities in all forms of waste management. These companies employ over 320000 people who operate around 2400 recycling and sorting centres, 1100 composting sites, 260 waste-to-energy plants and 900 controlled landfills. They play an important role in the determination of the best environmental option for waste management problems.

Lieze is head of the international policy unit at OVAM, the Public Waste Agency of Flanders, which ensures that Flanders deals with waste, materials and soil in a well-thought and environmentally sound manner. Since 1981 OVAM developed a balanced mix of economic and regulatory instruments on waste, materials and soil that made the Region of Flanders one of the frontrunners in Europe in this field.

We join forces with our partners in business, civil society, research and government, to develop a circular economy in a multi-stakeholder participatory approach. Circular Flanders serves as hub, inspiration and matchmaker for the transition to a circular economy in Flanders. We take actions that go further than sorting and recycling waste, to make a systemic shift from take-make-waste to a new economic model that keeps account of the scarcity of raw materials and ecological limits of our planet.

Begoña de Benito is the Director of External Affairs and Corporate Social Responsibility at Ecoembes, where she brings her experience in the consumer goods sector. From this position, she coordinates the relations among Administration, business organizations and civil society.

Mrs De Benito has a Law Degree from the Complutense University of Madrid and a Master's Degree in Economics and Business Management from the IESE (University of Navarra).

In the past 20 years, she has  gathered experience as a senior executive with commercial management and marketing management functions in the consumer goods sector, working as purchasing director in several departments of Ahold and as commercial director of Dinosol, a company in which she was also member of the corporate management committee and the executive committee. Mrs de Benito was also commercial and marketing director of the Spanish start-up Alice.es (e-commerce).

Ecoembes is a non for profit spanish organization taking care of environment through household packaging design and its recycling. As a great example of public-private collaboration, Ecoembes coordinates an Extender Producers Responsability Scheme in which citizens, public administrations and companies, work together to improve the environmental impact of household packaging.

Brendan Edgerton is the Director of Circular Economy at the World Business Council for Sustainable Development (WBCSD) in Geneva, Switzerland. Since arriving at WBCSD in 2015, he has managed the delivery of the Practitioner Guide (www.CEguide.org) and the 8 Business Cases to the Circular Economy and contributed to the Environmental Priorities for Business in the Circular Economy and the CEO Guide to the Circular Economy.

Brendan also contributed to the development and launch of Factor10, WBCSD’s circular economy program. This program launched at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland in January 2018 with over 30 members, spanning across 16 industries and claiming over USD $1.3 trillion in annual turnover. He now manages multiple workstreams under Factor10 on circular metrics and sector deep dives.

Prior to WBCSD, Brendan’s work experience includes life cycle assessment and costing at Walt Disney Imagineering, renewable and energy efficiency project identification at Office Depot and green building consulting with Green Dinosaur. Brendan has an MBA from the Yale School of Management, a Master of Environmental Management from the Yale School of Forestry & Environmental Studies and a bachelor’s with honors from the University of California Santa Cruz.

Ladeja has more than 20 years’ experience in communications on economic and societal transformation across the Adriatic region, empowering a new narrative of circular culture.

Circular Change is a private non-profit organisation serving as the entry point for circular economy projects across Europe. Instrumental in the stakeholder-led drafting of the Roadmap towards the Circular Economy for Slovenia, adopted by Slovenia's government in May 2018, the platform also serves as Slovenian Circular Hotspot within the Circular Hotspot Network. Overall the platform advocates for a stronger link between design and circular economy as the key to creating products that are useful, efficient, repairable and beautiful.

Kari Herlevi is a versatile multi-talent in the field of circular economy. He is currently leading the circular economy area at Sitra, the Finnish Innovation Fund. Previously responsible for the Resource efficient economy area in Tekes, the Finnish Funding Agency for Innovation, he managed the Green Growth – Towards a sustainable future -programme, which aimed to identify potential new growth areas for the sustainable economy business. Previously Kari led the Vigo accelerator programme at Tekes and supported Tekes management. Kari has also worked in the Tekes Silicon Valley office for a few years and his special interests are circular economy, fast growing cleantech firms and developing countries like BRIC.
