The Horizon 2020 project SUSTAINair was launched recently. It aims to research and develop solutions to increase resource efficiency and aircraft performance while cutting down on waste and material costs throughout the aircraft life cycle - what is known as "circular aviation".

He is Spanish, with a background in Forestry Engineering.
Freek van Eijk is CEO of Holland Circular Hotspot (HCH), a private-public platform that facilitates the transition to a circular economy at international level by bringing together government authorities, knowledge institutes and especially businesses. HCH supports knowledge exchange with the aim of stimulating entrepreneurship in the field of the circular economy.
Freek van Eijk is also vice-chair of Circular Biobased Delta, an alliance of Dutch provinces, businesses and knowledge centres pioneering a sustainable circular and biobased economy. He is one of the more senior Dutch experts in the field of waste management and the circular economy. He also serves as Managing Director of Acceleratio.
Previously, Freek van Eijk worked for over a decade as Director of strategy and PA at the multinational SUEZ and as a board member of the Dutch Waste Management Association and the Society and Enterprise Foundation and acted as a Sherpa for the EU Innovation Partnership on Raw Materials.
He has a MSc. Eng. (Delft University of Technology).
Cristian Matti is a sustainability and innovation policy expert committed to enabling science-policy-practice interfaces for the design and implementation of territorial development strategies in multistakeholder settings. He has got 20+ years of relevant professional experience with interventions in more than 18 countries in Europe and South America. His background is in policy, environment, circular economy and innovation management and he has got expertise on processes for the adaptation of scientific methods and tools into actionable knowledge, applied research, and project management as well as design, implementation and coordination of capacity building and technical assistance related actions. Cristian Matti is a design researcher at heart and an analytical thinker motivated to enable institutional change through innovation and capacity development processes across culture and functions.
