Cleanteach-Cluster Upper Austria
The Upper Autrian Cleantech-Cluster networks all actors from the resource supplier, to the manufacturer, industrial researcher, to mechanical engineers, recyclers, and disposers in order to find joint solutions and develop new technologies. We cooperate with our 10 cluster initiatives in the Upper Austrian business support agency and 2000 partner companies, whose activities range from plastics, to automotive, furniture and wood construction, food, medical technology, mechatronics, IT, logistics, and HR, In order to support projects for SMEs in particular, the cluster also supports EU funding applications, thus offering its partners an internationally mature circular economy toolbox.

This year edition of the EU Sustainable Energy Week will host a session titled ' Circular Economy – Energy and More' on the 7th of June at 11.00-12.30 in Brussels.
The German Sustainable Building Council (DGNB) is the German and international knowledge platform for sustainable building, counting more than 1,200 members.
European regions toward Circular Economy
The CircE Project (European regions toward Circular Economy) involves 8 partners both at regional and local scale and representatives of different European social and economic scenarios. The project aims at strengthening the diffusion of Circular Economy in Europe, consistently with the European Commission’s Circular Economy Package (2015). In particular the project aims at helping the partners involved to increase the capability of their policy instruments to steer economy towards a circular model. The project carries out this task by aiming at modifying or readdressing the selected policy instruments through an exchange of knowledge/experiences among Partners, through a continuous involvement of Stakeholders and through a deeper analysis of economic system.
The Granada Sur Biorefinery of Emasagra has set up an ambitious environmental strategy in order to become European circular economy reference in the field of sanitation and wastewater treatment.
Simina LAKATOS is founding President of the Institute for Circular Economy and Environment "Ernest Lupan" (IRCEM) since 2012. Simina has economical and technical knowledge, abilities and experience: she holds a B.A. in Economics and a B.A. Honours in Materials and Environment Engineering. She obtianed a Doctorate in Engineering and Management in 2011 after defending her thesis on Corporate Social Responsibility. Simina has been part of the Dept. of Management and Economical Engineering of UTC since 2011, where she teaches and researches the following areas: Sustainable Development with focus in circular economy, Strategic Management with focus in social economy, Enterprise Assessment and Marketing and International Management, all of which helps her to develop the IRCEM. Her focus is to accelerate the transition towards circularity from the bottom up with concerted actions, developing practical and scalable solutions, national campaigns, communicating and involving ohters in the dissemination of the circular economy and sustainable development message. Simina is Romanian and is fluent in English and Italian.
EU-funded SwitchMed Programme supports and connects stakeholders to scale-up social and eco-innovations in the Mediterranean. It promotes inclusive growth, job creation and sustainable development by supporting policy makers, eco-innovative small and medium sized enterprises, industries, start-ups and entrepreneurs in the Southern Mediterranean countries.
Circular economy principles made assessable and measurable in the DGNB certification of sustainable districts, buildings and interiors
DGNB: The German Sustainable Building Council (DGNB) is a central knowledge platform for sustainable building and provides the world’s most advanced sustainable building certification system which makes Circular Economy aspects measurable and assessable.
CIRC-PACK project aims at more sustainable, efficient, competitive, integrated and interconnected plastic packaging value chain with less fossil fuel dependence.
The Solidarity Computers initiative aims to extend the useful life of IT equipment that no longer meets the requirements for use. This can be reused by employees for their personal use by buying it for a symbolic fee, or donated to NGOs or to other external entities.
The integration of the steel sector into the electricity generation cycle is an example of collaboration between companies from different sectors that significantly minimizes the environmental impact of their facilities. This integration allows the steel production gases produced by the industrial processes of steel plants to be transferred to an electric company for use as additional fuel in the boilers of its plants together with the main fuel, in a hybrid generation and / or cogeneration process.
Laura Cutaia, researcher at ENEA is an Environmental Engineer (1996) with a PhD in raw materials eng. (2002). Main research topics: Industrial ecology and Symbiosis, Technology for raw and secondary materials treatment, Resources management, Life Cycle Assessment, Environmental Certification, End of life management. She is the responsible of Resources Valorisation Lab. at ENEA working on: circular economy and resource efficiency, industrial ecology and symbiosis, LCA, environmental certification schemes, REACH regulation, sustainable industrial areas.
Alexandre Affre is Director for the Industrial Affairs department at BusinessEurope, the leading advocate for growth and competitiveness at European level. In this role since 2013, Alexandre is responsible for developing and communicating the organization’s positions on energy, climate and environmental policy as well as industrial policy and research & innovation. Prior to that, he worked at the wildlife trade monitoring network of WWF and IUCN. Alexandre is a trained scientist and holds a Master in Ecology from the Université Pierre et Marie Curie.
The Ellen MacArthur Foundation is a UK charity with the aim of accelerating the transition to the circular economy.
Since its creation the charity has emerged as a global thought leader, establishing the circular economy on the agenda of decision makers across business, government and academia. Maja has been with the Foundation’s the Gov. & Cities team since 2015, where her work revolves around supporting policymakers at international, national, regional and local level in driving circular economy initiatives.
New, innovative bioenergy products from paper and pulp mills’ sidestreams utilizing novel biogas technology
EcoEnergySF Oy has a biogas plant in the area of Metsä Fibre Bioproduct Mill in Äänekoski, Finland. The biogas plant processes the wastewater slurries of the BioproductMill, and turn those into biogas for transportation, carbon dioxide for pulping process as well as fertilizers and solid biofuel for boiler plants.
