Description

RecyOuest is a green economy start-up that recycles contaminated filamentary thermoplastics such as agricultural nets, used for round bales and made of high-density polyethylene (HDPE), and polypropylene (PP) twines. These single-use products are used by farmers to store fodder for animals or straw after harvest. More than 1 billion round bale nets are used around the world, 50% of them in Europe, generating around 150 000 tonnes of waste each year in Europe (RecyOuest data).

Thanks to its dry-cleaning process, RecyOuest can regenerate this plastic waste and create a recycled raw material (RRM) - HDPE - without the use of water or chemicals. Used polypropylene twine and high-density polyethylene round-bale nets collected from farmers are sorted, dry-cleaned and transformed into recycled raw material in the company’s factory in Normandy (France). The raw material can then be reused for nets and twine in a circular approach.

Main results
  • The process is patented.
  • It is based on recycling techniques used in the textile sector.
  • The treatment of plastic from round straw bales made of HDPE has undergone Environmental Technology Verification (ETV) certification.
  • RecyOuest offers high-quality recycled polypropylene made from agricultural twine, with high traceability.
