The Green Deal, Circular Economy and Industrial Ecology Symposium 2024 is part of the scientific activities of the WHITECYCLE project, a Horizon Europe project led by Michelin and in line with the Circular Economy Action Plan. The project aims to develop a circular solution to transform complex textile-based plastic waste into high-value products. It brings together fifteen private and public partners from France, Germany, Norway, Spain and Türkiye.

The symposium will bring together researchers and practitioners who will present their research on industrial ecology and circular economy. They will discuss the results of existing industrial projects, debate policies and strategies and suggest new models integrating industrial ecology.

The organisers expect that around 40 papers will be selected for presentation during the symposium. The papers will cover:

  1. Feedback on experiences and results of Horizon Europe projects, focusing on the circular economy and in particular on the development of innovations (low tech vs. high-tech) in line with the 10R model (Reject, Rethink, Reduce, Reuse, Repair, Renovate, Remanufacture, Recycle, Recover) or metrics.
  2. Research on paradigm shifts triggered by the emergence of new models. The circular economy could thus be compared with green growth, the social and solidarity economy, the economy of functionality, degrowth, etc.
  3. Reflections on industrial policies and strategies implementing the circular economy.
  4. Work on metrics and indicators for the circular economy, seeking to develop new methodologies (lifecycle analysis, flow-stock models, social acceptability logic) or defining different levels of analysis (micro, meso or macro).
  5. Analysis of the business models relating to the circular economy and in particular the integration of circularity principles and other related features, such as efficiency, resilience and cooperation.

The event will be held in English on 5-6 December at the MSH Clermont in Clermont-Ferrand, France.

This is a paid event. Registration will open in mid-September.
